In a simple ceremony on Wednesday, Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc (FFTP) donated quantities of sterilizers, assorted medical equipment, boxes of foot powder among other items to the Georgetown Public Hospital, New Amsterdam Hospital, West Demerara Regional Hospital, Linden Hospital Complex, Ministry of Health and the Regional Health Office as part of FFTP’s continued support to the Health Sector.

The items were donated at the FFTP Complex to provide much-needed relief to the Health Sector.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy – Advisor to the Minister of Health expressed his heartfelt gratitude. He explained the relationship between the Ministry of Health and FFTP has been fruitful over the years, and the donations received are always aligned to the needs of the health sector and of benefit to the people of Guyana.

He further explained that he visited most of the region’s Health Centers and one of the requirements was the sterilizers, that were received today, thus, they will be used immediately.

Pediatric Surgeon of GPHC; Dr. Seepersaud explained that sterilizers are a new technology that is being introduced to the armamentarium care at GPHC. The sterilizers use ultraviolet light to sterilize the instruments and various types of equipment. This was not available before, so it represents a cost-saving to the institution as well as increased safety to patients.

GPHC was very grateful that FFTP continued to take steps to help and support the programs and initiatives of GPHC and the citizens of Guyana.

Dr. Joseph London; Medical Superintendent from the Linden Hospital Complex remarked that this donation was tangible, useful, and very timely and would go into use at the Linden Hospital immediately with a great impact on all our patients and citizens. Therefore, the Linden Hospital was truly grateful to FFTP and the collaborative partners.

CEO of FFTP- Mr. Kent Vincent highlighted that FFTP has been collaborating with the Ministry of Health to acquire items that are essential to the Health Sector, so it was the pleasure of the organisation to be donating the items that were expected to meet the needs of the sector not only in Georgetown but in the interior locations where they were also urgently needed.

Mr.  Vincent reiterated Food for Poor Guyana’s commitment to the health sector and citizens of Guyana.
