-$10,000 fines and community service charges instituted
Strict measures are being implemented to ensure persons adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, several individuals appeared before the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, to face charges for breaching the COVID-19 protocols.
The cases were called before Her Worship Crystal Lambert, via a video conference.
Rickey Benny, David Williams, Anthony Henry, Travis James and Harry Tularam, were all charged with Breach of COVID-19 Emergency Measures and subsequently fined $10,000.
Additionally, Montana Nurse and Leonard Surrey, who both pleaded guilty to the charge of breaching the measures, received 90 hours of Community Service each.
Meanwhile, the cases of Simone Lindore and Tesha Kenswil, have been put off until September 14, 2020, due to their absence in Court.
Cases against Loraine Macgregor and Alecia Macgregor, who were facing similar charges, were dismissed.
Just recently, Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Frank Anthony, cautioned that persons who chose not to adhere to protocols would be fined. Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, also added to this and announced plans to intensify Guyana Police Force effort, to aid in this regard.
